Microsoft - the heavy hand
I asked why must I upgrade to Windows 11
AI responded . . . . . .
While you aren't required to upgrade to Windows 11, several factors make it a strong recommendation, especially as support for Windows 10 ends in October 2025. Windows 11 offers a more modern interface, enhanced security, improved performance, and access to new features like AI-powered tools and Microsoft Copilot. It also ensures you continue receiving security updates and technical support from Microsoft
Personally I disagree with most of the reasons because in my opinion
- the new interface sucks
- performance is sluggish due to bloated code
- AI powered tools do not require Win 11 with 99% of processing in the cloud
- Microsoft's version of AI (Copilot) does not require Win 11
Microsoft are withdrawing support for Windows 10, that is fine, they have done it before with Windows XP, Vista, 7 and the shortlived 8, but you always had the option to upgrade your operating system on your existing hardware (within reason). Not this time.
There are minimum hardware requirements that most hardware created 5 or more years ago cannot meet.
So - what is the answer?
My recommendation is to contact Chase Computers. We will not try and force you to purchase new hardware, in fact we will guide you to any decent quality refurbished hardware we are aware of. Whilst you are welcome to purchase new hardware, good, guaranteed hardware running either Win 11 or Win 11 pro is available for 30-50% of the cost of a new PC, laptop or all-in-one. However, if you have found a bargain, don't hesitate to call us for our opinion!!
When you have your new Win 11 machine we will happily assist in setting it up and transferring your files from the old to the new whilst configuring it so that Microsoft causes the least interference with you life.
For the record, the thing I dislike most is Microsoft dictating to me that I must replace ALL my existing hardware . . . .
